South Shields

I decided to design this website due to taking a great interest in the history of South Shields while researching my family history.

Genealogy is a very addictive hobby, just when you think you have got as far as you can go, something else turns up, another piece to the puzzle, you might say.

I haven't always lived in South Shields, I moved here in 1989, previously living in Berwick upon Tweed which in itself is full of history.

Since researching my family tree, I have taken note of such a lot around me, places you would take for granted, not thinking for one moment who lived there 50, 100 or even 200+ years ago. Every photo tells a story and that is what I want to build up within this site, an image as it was then and as it is now, with the help of others .

There must be hundreds of old photographs out there, lying in a tin, box or photo album or even up there in the loft.

My aim is wherever possible, to take a photograph standing in the same position as the early photographer would have stood, to see the changes which took place, then and now.

I'd like to do this for the pe0ple of South Shields, for those of you who have moved away and of course for those that still live in the town.
